Why “Looking Poor” Is Important
In today's society, appearance seems to matter, and many people strive to project an image of wealth and success. But is it really worth it? However, adopting a Gen X mindset can be beneficial, and embracing the idea of "Living within your means" and not "Looking Poor" can have a significant impact on one's Mental and Financial well-being.

I talk about the concept of Income Perception and how it affects our Economic Psychology. Perceived Income is a person's subjective opinion of their income level. It can reflect how someone views their socioeconomic status. Perceived income can impact how someone feels about their financial adequacy or inadequacy. For example, someone might feel that their income is not adequate if they don't think it's enough to meet their needs. It can have an extremely negative effect on their mental well-being and make them feel insufficient. It can also lead to anxiety and depression in some cases. However, it can also have a positive effect as well which can lead to Motivation and Determination giving someone the ability to set goals and achieve them.
I also want to talk about the world of Perception Management and discuss why, sometimes, it's better to avoid being perceived as rich. Perception management, in one form, is the practice of influencing how people perceive others or themselves. This idea of mocking others because of what they wear, how they look, or the things they have is almost as old as time itself. It is also a negative form of practice where people want others of certain groups or Social status to accept them. This can lead to extreme unhappiness if rejection ever happens. We should all learn to accept people for who they are and not because of their financial status. Respect should be something we offer in the beginning not something that needs to be earned.
Join me, Jerome Rubio of GenX Xperiment as we uncover the importance of "Living within your means" and not "looking poor" and how it can lead to a more frugal and sustainable lifestyle. By shifting our focus away from status symbols and material possessions, we can cultivate a more mindful approach to our finances and build a stronger foundation for our future. So, if you're ready to challenge the conventional norms and adopt a more Gen X Era approach to money, then this video is for you.
Living poorly on purpose is not about depriving ourselves, but about living a life that's more intentional, more meaningful, and more fulfilling. It's about recognizing that true fulfillment doesn't come from external sources, but from living a life that's true to who we are.
